Our Catholic Wedding Mass at St. Thomas More in Arizona
When Sam and I started planning our wedding, one thing was never in question: we’d be getting married at St. Thomas More Catholic Church back home in Arizona. I grew up going to mass there, sitting in those pews on weekends with my family, watching the sunlight spill through the stained glass windows. Walking down that same aisle on my wedding day felt like such a full circle moment.
There’s something incredibly special about getting married in a place that already holds so many memories. I knew the space would be beautiful in photos (St. Thomas More has beautiful high ceilings, warm stone walls, and the most stunning stained glass) but what made it even more meaningful was the comfort and peace it brought to both of us that day.
The Mass itself was the part of the day I was most excited for. It was quiet and reverent, and you could feel the presence of something bigger than all of us as we said our vows before God, surrounded by the people who love us most. I remember looking at Sam and feeling overwhelmed with gratitude, not just for him, but for our faith and the foundation we were building our marriage on.
As a photographer, I’ve always been drawn to the little in-between moments that aren’t posed or staged, but feel like tiny miracles captured in time. And I’m so glad we had that same approach to our own day. The photos from our Mass are some of my favorites.
It reminded me that wedding photos aren’t just about the pretty details or the perfect portrait. They’re about preserving what the day felt like, especially moments as sacred and intimate as a Catholic wedding Mass.
If you’re planning a Catholic wedding, my biggest advice is this: don’t rush it. Take it all in. Let the quiet be part of the beauty. Those are the memories you’ll hold closest.
Thank you to our beautiful photographer, Victoria Petersen, for capturing our day so perfectly.
