Wedding detail flatlays are one of my favorite ways to showcase the little details that make a wedding day so unique. From heirloom jewelry to perfectly curated invitations, these styled moments tell a story all their own. In this post, I’m sharing some of my favorite detail flatlays I’ve created, along with tips and inspiration to help you bring your own vision to life! 1.) Wedding invitation suite (including RSVP card, envelope, and stamps)

Jared & Phoebe included their invitations, as well as detail cards and ENVELOPES in their details box. The envelope creates depth and space in the detail photos, and I often suggest brides to include a handful (3 or 4 even!) for a more robust look.

2.) Shoes

Don’t forget to include your shoes in your detail box! When I second shot for @hannahbrookephotography, she did something I’ve never seen before: she delicately arranged the extra florals in the bridal heels to make for the most STUNNING arrangement… Safe to say I’m obsessed and will be using this idea again and again.

3.) Save the Dates

So many couples leave our their Save the Dates when it comes to their detail flatlay, but I think it’s such a cute detail! It often includes a photo of the couple which makes the end result even more personalized.

4.) Bridal Bouquet

This one might be a no-brainer but your bridal bouquet is my personal favorite addition to the detail flatlays!! Super important pro tip: when you’re discussing with your florist what time they’ll deliver your blooms, make sure to pick a time BEFORE your photographer arrives (and in the same location!) There’s nothing worse from our end when the beautiful bouquet arrives just after we’ve packed the detail box back up.

5.) Extra Florals

While we’re on the floral subject, I love nothing more than when a bride gets extra loose flowers from the florist! I always suggest that when you’re confirming arrival times, to check in to see if you can have the extra flowers that weren’t used. Sometimes they’ll charge you a small fee (mine was $25!), or just give them to you!! These can be used to bring out extra texture and pops of color next to your invitations, and gives a luxurious look to your photos. And who doesn’t love a few extra flowers thrown in the mix??

6.) Rings

This one is a no-brainer, but make sure to collect all your rings! I like to use your engagement ring, wedding band, and his band to make the most out of these photos. I’ll bring a handful of my favorite ring boxes to display the rings in, but feel free to pack your own ring box if you have one that you love or matches your wedding suite!

7.) Sentimental Items

Sentimental Items are one of my favorites to play with in detail flatlays. Kendra and Tom included Kendra’s grandmothers wedding cake toppers, used also by Kendra’s parents on their wedding day! It was so sweet to capture this detail loved by her family for generations… Here’s to Kendra and Tom’s kids using them for their wedding cakes someday!!

8.) Glassware

Glassware is SUCH a fun addition to any details photo, especially if you plan to do a champagne tower later in the light. They’re a beautiful addition as is, but they cast such an ethereal shadow on the rest of your flatlay if photographed in the direct sun!

9.) “Pretty Things”

I made up this category on my own that I like to call “pretty things.” Any accessories that you think are pretty could be a fun addition, like the gold mirror or vintage stamps in this detail collection. Other ideas could be wax seals, wax stamps, a vintage camera, ring dishes, your reception hair clip, or really anything and everything that you think could be a cute addition! There are no limits when it comes to pretty things!

10.) Bridal Purse

Our photographer @victoriapetersen__ CRUSHED our detail photos, both inside and outside. I made sure to include my favorite bridal accessory, my purse, designed by @carteblanchebride. Make sure to include yours if you love it as much as I loved mine!

BONUS: Nightime Flatlay

The reception flatlay is so much fun if you find yourself with a large chunk of open dancing time. I like to collect whatever’s around, like candles, details on the table (like table numbers or menus), a slice of cake, empty beer bottles, cocktail glasses, florals, purses, rings, and maybe even a polaroid I took during the day. I love to do a few light dragging photos if I have candles on the table here too!
